6th Annual Golf Tournament, August 27th!

Companions for Children is a local, non-profit, volunteer organization that strives to provide all enrolled children with a screened Adult Companion volunteer. Companions for Children has been at work in the Minot area since 1972. During this time Companions for Children has provided hundreds of children with mentors whom have helped them through challenging and crucial times in their lives. Many of these mentorships become lifelong friendships!

Companions for Children has a goal of matching every child in Minot from a single-parent home with a caring adult mentor. Why does CfC have this goal? The answer is simple. Mentors change kids lives for the better. But don't take our word for it!

Studies have shown that youth who meet regularly with a mentor are:

·        less likely to consider suicide

·        less likely to suffer from depression

·        less likely to begin using illegal drugs

·        less likely to begin using alcohol

·        less likely to skip school

·        less likely to react by hitting

·        more confident of their performance in school

·        more likely to get along better with families

Beyond studies and statistics are real human stories.  Cindy was involved with Companions for Children as a youth or “Youth Companion”. Please read her story and make up your own mind.

“I believe the Companions for Children program saved my life. I was in abusive (both mental and physical) foster care. I was given the most special life-long friend. Before I met Diane, I had considered suicide. I was severely depressed and lonely. You get to a point where you don’t think you can take any more abuse. When Diane came into my life, she made me feel special. She was the first person to treat me as a human being. I know Diane didn’t know the half of what I’d been through, but through her love and the love of her family, they have made me what I am today. Even after I wasn’t in the program anymore, Diane continued to be my friend. The summer after my junior year, I was gonna run away. She offered me a home with her family. The welfare system wasn’t gonna let me go, but somehow, Diane convinced them. That was the best year of my life. They bought me my first car and helped me through college. Diane was there when I got married and when my children were born and now that they are graduating. She is the mother I never had. As a mother myself, I thank God every day for bringing Diane to me. Without the Companions for Children program, I wouldn’t be here today. Keep up the good work. Thanks again.”
